Darren Laur

Dear parents of grade 6 students,

Today students attended a presentation by Darren Laur, a renowned internet safety presenter and member of the Victoria police.  The talk addressed many important topics aimed at keeping children safe and becoming good digital citizens.  Some of the topics addressed included Cyber Bullying and Sexting and their unintended consequences, and why students need to consider that everything they do on-line is public, permanent and searchable no matter what their privacy settings.  These are important topics to address with pre-teens, but the experience may have been emotional for some students.

Darren Laur is speaking tonight at Happy Valley School from 6:30 – 8:30.  All parents are welcome to come to learn more about this important topic. You can find more information about the presentation at http://www.personalprotectionsystems.ca/programs/internet-safety/internet-safety-schools.html.

In addition, the grade 6 students are having their DARE grad on Friday at 1:00 in the gym. Parents are welcome to attend this celebration.

Please help us raise money for the year-end trip.  We need parent, particularly tomorrow morning at 8:00 and Saturday.  We also need student volunteers for Saturday, starting at 8:45.

Grade 6 Year End Trip Fundraiser

            To raise money for the Happy Valley Elementary, Grade 6 year end trip we are having a bottle drive.  We will collect bottles before school on Jan. 16-18, and from 9:00-12:00 on Jan. 19^th.  We are looking for donations of bottles.  We are looking for parent and student volunteers.
