White group- some end in Consonant Vowel Consonant to make a short vowel sound, some end in a CVCe in which the helper 'e' makes the vowel sound long, two are oddballs: which, wax, skin, crab, lots, gum, drip, crop,these, mule, rule, note, safe, wife, cape, tide, vote, wipe, race, done, have.
Orange Group- these are all compound words, some are literal, some are figurative: bookmark, bookworm, cookbook, scrapbook, lightweight, daylight, flashlight, sunlight, headlight, downstairs, downtown, downpour, countdown, headfirst, headphones, headstrong, snowflake, snowstorm, snowplow.
